As the heartland of the historic 'Vanneri Nadu', this village played a decisive role in the political and cultural evolution of medieval Kerala. Origin of Perumpadappu Swaroopam Perumpadappu is renowned in history as the birthplace of the Cochin Kingdom. The rulers of Cochin were officially known as 'Perumpadappu Mooppil' or 'Perumpadappu Swaroopam'. Following the fall of the Chera Dynasty in Mahodayapuram (Kodungallur), the ruling lineage that emerged centered around Perumpadappu Mana later established its governance in Cochin.
